Welcome to the Eighth District Dental Society!

Hello all,

I hope you are all doing well, and are following the Covid-19 preventive protocols that have been recommended in your county, as well as the guidelines strongly that have been recommended by our NYS Governor, Andrew Cuomo. Hopefully, this unprecedented situation resolves soon, although there is no certainty as to its longevity. It is important to stay current with all of the news as it relates to the spread of Covid-19, as well as following the steps of frequent hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes, avoidance of crowds, social distancing, self monitoring, and of course closing down our offices, except for urgent dental care, with emphasis on “urgent”.

Obviously, this idea of ‘sheltering’ and closing will have a tremendous impact on all of us, financially, socially, and emotionally to our staffs, patients, and our families. That is why I am strongly recommending that all dentists be kept aware of the latest information available through the ADA, NYSDA, and of course the Eighth District Dental Society. Additionally, I would also suggest that all dentists sign up for Action Alerts through the ADA website at:

It is simple; just sign up with your email address and submit. This is an excellent source of “up to the minute” practical, economic and legislative information that will affect all of us.

In addition, to all who are interested and there is a desire to contribute as a medical/dental volunteer locally, please contact the Erie County Department of Health website, or 716-858-7690, or your Public Health Dept. in your County of residence. We have a tremendous amount of education, training, and willingness to contribute in many ways to help minimize the effects of this crisis. So, if possible, let’s contribute and hopefully shorten this unexpected and unwanted period of suspended animation.

Please be safe, responsible, stay healthy, and act appropriately in reducing the spread of the Coronavirus. Hopefully, we will all return to normalcy as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Warm and safe regards,

James C. Matteliano DDS

An URGENT Security Warning for Businesses Running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

If your organization is currently running Windows 7 on one or more computers in your office and/or if you are running Windows Server 2008 R2, you need to know about a dangerous security threat to your organization that must be addressed by January 2020!  Please take a moment to read this important announcement.

My name is Ikram Massabini, CEO of MVP Network Consulting and the Official IT Provider for the Eighth District Dental Society. As such, we are aggressively attempting to reach all businesses within the WNY area that use Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 to alert you to a serious security risk to your organization, and inform you about what you need to do now to protect your company and remain HIPAA Compliant.

Microsoft has officially announced that it will retire support on the Windows 7 operating system and Windows Server 2008 R2 on January 14, 2020 (see the enclosed article for more details). That means any computer or server with these operating systems installed will be completely exposed to serious hacker attacks aimed at taking control of your network, stealing data, crashing your system and inflicting a host of other business-crippling problems you do NOT want to have to deal with.

This is such a serious threat that all companies housing financial and medical information are being required by law to upgrade any and all computer systems running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 because firewalls and anti-virus software will NOT be sufficient to completely protect them (or you).

MVP is offering a free Microsoft Risk Assessment and Migration Plan for any Eighth District Society Members. We can scan your computers and let you know which ones need to be upgraded and/or replaced by the deadline to remain HIPAA Compliant. You can visit for more information.
