Welcome to the Eighth District Dental Society!

Welcome to the Eighth District Dental Society website. We thank you for visiting and hope you find our site interesting and resourceful. You can find information about The Society and it’s affiliates in the "About Us" tab. The "Member Center" tab has information including how to join or renew your membership, membership benefits which are significant and worthwhile, and other resources that are available to members.

Additionally, you can find information in the "CE and Events" tab regarding all of our upcoming Continuing Education presentations and other events, including New Dentist events and Volunteer outreach programs. Conveniently, there is a "News and Publications" tab that features the 8th District Bulletin, classified ads, and job postings.

I encourage any New Member to visit our “Member Center” to find information about our newly introduced Student Loan Award Program. This is a great program to help defer some of the student loan debt that many have incurred. This program is available to those New Dentists who meet the eligibility criteria. It’s a benefit for the New Dentist and the Eighth District Dental Society.

As the 2020 President, I thank you for your membership in the Tripartite and encourage your interest in our updated website, attendance in CE programs, and participation in volunteer events that benefit the public we serve, as well as ourselves, the member dentists.

Please bring forth any concerns or suggestions that may better serve you, our members, improve The Society, and the dental and oral health of the public we serve.

James C. Matteliano DDS
2020 President, Eighth District Dental Society

The 2019 ADA House of Delegates in San Fransisco, CA

The House of Delegates (HOD) is the legislative and governing body and supreme authority of the American Dental Association (ADA). It represents more than 163,000 dentist members of the ADA and the dental profession in the United States. There are 483 members of the HOD chosen by the 53 constituent societies, the five federal dental services and the American Student Dental Association.

The HOD meets once a year during the ADA Annual Meeting. This year the House met in San Francisco, CA from September 6-9, 2019. I was happy to serve as a delegate with Dr. Glen Donnarumma, along with our alternate delegates Drs. Kevin Hanley and John Tibbetts.

The HOD closed its 2019 session with a balanced budget, adopting policies to support state-based advocacy, enhance the digital member experience and continue efforts to strengthen the financial stability of the association.

New officers were installed and elections took place. New York State’s own Dr. Chad P. Gehani became the 156th President of the ADA. There were six candidates who ran for Speaker of the House, including two from New York State; the House elected Dr. W. Mark Donald from Mississippi. Other officers include: President-Elect Dr. Daniel J. Klemmedson, Second Vice President Dr. Vincent U. Rapini, and Treasurer Dr. Ted Sherwin.

The issues of the House were divided into four reference committees for testimony and voting. I will highlight some of the key resolutions in each of these reference committees:
