Study Clubs

The Eighth District Dental Society has a handful of "approved study clubs". What does that mean? It just means that these study clubs have met our requirements in order for Eighth District Dental Society to co-sponsor continuing education courses for these study clubs.

If you are part of a study club and would like to find out more about how to become an Eighth District Approved Study Club, please call the Society office at 716-995-6300.

This 1-hour CE activity equips clinicians to effectively manage the atrophic mandibular ridge through a coordinated oral surgery–prosthodontic approach. Learners will be able to describe how ridge morphology impacts treatment planning, differentiate rehabilitation options, and identify appropriate candidates for subperiosteal implant therapy. The course will guide participants through key clinical and procedural steps—covering preoperative assessment and planning workflow, critical surgical principles that influence outcomes, and prosthodontic factors that drive retention, stability, occlusion, and long-term fit. In addition, attendees will learn how to integrate interdisciplinary communication between the surgical and prosthetic phases, recognize risk-mitigation considerations for common complications, and apply practical follow-up and maintenance strategies. A focused case-based discussion will reinforce how these concepts translate to real-world management and predictable rehabilitation for severely atrophic mandibular cases.

Course Objectives

1. Describe the clinical characteristics and patient presentation associated with an atrophic mandibular ridge, and explain how ridge morphology influences treatment planning.

2. Differentiate treatment options for the severely atrophic mandible (e.g., conventional dentures vs. implant-supported/prosthesis strategies) and identify appropriate candidates for subperiosteal implant therapy.

3. Outline the step-by-step workflow for KLS Martin IPS subperiosteal implant management, including preoperative planning, imaging/impressions approach, and prosthesis-driven planning considerations
